Paper-cutting is a traditional Chinese culture. Paper-cutting is mostly used as a decoration, or an aesthetic way to express people’s wishes, gratitude and other emotions. The vividly depicted cuttings usually express wishes for a harvest, good fortunes, good health, happiness, and wealth.
Chinese dragon is an auspicious animal. The characteristic scepter in the baby’s hand, which is called Ruyi (which means as you desire), and the shape of this scepter symbolizes good fortune in Chinese folklore. And red color is usually utilized in joyful events like weddings. This paper cutting describes an auspicious and joyful scene.
In 2002, Tingting Su was admitted to Academy of Arts and Design of Tsinghua University, one of the best colleges of art in China, where she majored in Ceramic Arts and Design. In Tsinghua, she expanded her knowledge on the history of Chinese art and foreign art, developed her skills on ceramic design as well as drawing, painting, paper cutting, and sculpture. She received her bachelor and master in fine arts in Tsinghua University. As a designer, she has won many awards for her ceramic design including 3rd and 2nd prize in the 13th and 14th Chinese contemporary ceramic exhibition, honorable mention of household porcelain competition of Shandong province.
